Voice Studio

With over a decade of experience, I’ve had the privilege of teaching voice students of all ages and levels, from middle school to adult learners, across a wide range of musical styles, including folk, pop, musical theater, jazz, and classical. My teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that a strong foundation of healthy vocal technique—developed through targeted skill acquisition in breath, phonation, resonance, registration, and articulation—empowers singers to perform with confidence and artistry in any genre.

My approach to teaching is dynamic and student-centered. I incorporate movement and body mapping into lessons, helping singers connect with their physical instrument and achieve efficient, sustainable vocal production. Students are encouraged to engage in self-reflection, analyzing both the sound they create and the physical sensations they experience while singing. By fostering this awareness, I guide each singer to deepen their understanding of their voice and unlock their full potential.

I am passionate about continuous learning, regularly advancing my expertise in vocal pedagogy, repertoire, and instructional strategies. This allows me to meet each student where they are, support their unique goals, and adapt my methods to their evolving needs—whether they are preparing for auditions, competitions, professional engagements, or simply singing for personal joy.

Teaching Experience

My background spans over a decade of private voice instruction, six years as a classroom choral director, and nearly ten years of teaching private piano and violin lessons. I’ve also served as a vocal coach and music director for numerous local and regional theater productions. At the university level, I’ve held positions as:

  • Head of Voice, Cleveland State University

  • Lecturer in Vocal Music, Eastern Washington University

  • Instructor of Voice and Director of Vocal Jazz, Seattle Pacific University

  • Graduate Teaching Assistant and Junior Faculty, University of Washington

I take pride in helping high school students successfully prepare for university-level vocal study. My students have earned admission to renowned programs, including the Capital University Conservatory of Music, The Ohio State University, Otterbein University, University of Washington, and Ohio University.

The restroom is located to the opposite side of the worship space. You are welcome to record your lessons. Bring copies of your music (when appropriate) that are double-sided and in a 3-ring binder (one for me and one for you if not memorized). Online Lesson Etiquette

Zoom may be used for online lessons. Please email me a pdf of the music prior to the lesson time. It’s necessary to use one device, such as your computer, for the connectivity platform (i.e. Zoom, Factime) and another to play an accompanist track (i.e. ipad or cell phone). Accompanist tracks may be found using the app “appcompanist,” youtube has karaoke links, and a myriad of other sites may be accessed. Playing the guitar always works for the pop/rock genre.
